Think about everyday use
Single bed
A straightforward option. Compare the complete frame size, bed height and room for storage.
Bunk or raised bed
Check the model’s age restrictions, guard rails, ladder position, ceiling clearance and maximum mattress depth.
Day bed or guest arrangement
Confirm the main and extra sleeping sizes, what is included and the room needed when extended.
Plan the whole room
Measure the floor space and ceiling height where the bed will stand. Check windows, doors, radiators and the route to the bed. Allow space for the ladder or steps where fitted.
Think about dressing, play, homework and storage as well as sleeping. Check that drawers and cupboards can open without blocking the room.
Use the specified mattress
Confirm the actual mattress length, width and permitted depth. A mattress that fits the nominal size may still be unsuitable for a raised bed if it exceeds the stated depth.
Do not add extra layers, a topper or another mattress unless the manufacturer permits it. Check whether the listed bed includes a mattress or whether it needs to be chosen separately.
