Look closely at the finish
Woven fabric
Compare the texture, weave and colour in the light where you plan to use it. Ask about the specific fibre blend and care instructions.
Velvet and pile fabrics
The direction of the pile can change the apparent shade. View the fabric from different angles and ask how to maintain its appearance.
Leather and leather-look
Confirm the actual material and which parts of the item use it. Different finishes require different cleaning products.
Match the upholstery to your routine
Think about pets, children, sunlight and where drinks or food are likely to be used. Ask about the manufacturer’s care guidance rather than assuming a fabric is stain-proof, scratch-proof or washable.
A removable cover is not automatically machine washable. Check the label for both the cover and the cushion filling. Compare how much regular cushion dressing or plumping the chosen model needs.
Choose with the whole room in mind
- Compare the finish with your floor, rug and wall colour.
- Look at it in natural light and evening lighting where possible.
- Check that each item in a matching order uses the same named finish.
- Ask whether separate orders may come from different batches.
Keep the care plan simple
Follow the supplied cleaning guidance, and deal with spills using the method it permits. Test any approved product as directed before treating a visible area. Avoid improvised solvents or soaking upholstery.
Keep the product label and instructions. If you are unsure about a mark, ask UC Beds before applying a treatment that could affect the finish.
